Hi, I am planning on setting up an array (well, several) using the Seoul Semiconductor's P4 Z-Powered LEDs.

My main concern is the controlling part of the LED, issues like:

1) Tightly controlling Voltage and Current feeds.
2) Staggering t0 for each array
3) Allowing for a ramp-up and a ramp-down time of ~30min (brightness going from 0% to 100% and back down to 0% again) for each individual array.

I figured posting this first attempt to a question the in the LED section would be appropriate, but move it around as you see fit.

Now the interesting -for me at least- part is that I am totally ignorant when it comes to PICs and micro-controllers, hence I need your expertise.

Anyone up to the task?

Also appreciated would be a good PIC 101 tutorial so I can get the ball rolling towards starting to select an appropriate PIC family to use for the above project, how to programm things, what is possible electrically-wise with a PICs, PIC programmers, hardware interfaces, etc etc... I can go on all day on what I see as a learning curve here Shocked Shocked

Heck I got a lot of reading to do! j/k, I do not mind, that is the fun of DIY for me anyway.

Thanks for the links mate, let me do some reading and I will come back with more educated questions for you. I hope you;ll still be around to help then... Wink

Turd, back I am...

It looks like its gonna be PICAXE for me since Basic looks much much easier than C or the other lang needed for other PICs.

Looking at the 18A or X chips since I thinks its capacity will allow me to learn only this one now (and for a long while it will be enough for my needs) and if my needs outgrow it (I doubt it) I'll move upwards. Is this logic or do you suggest I start with a 'lower' chip?

Now, I've grabbed the major pdfs and read most of the material, and I am now looking at these two to get started:

http://cgi.ebay.com/PICAXE-microcontroller-USB-Development-Board-Basic_W0QQitemZ150185788052QQihZ005QQcategoryZ50915QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

and

http://194.201.138.187/epages/Store.storefront/?ObjectPath=/Shops/Store.TechSupplies/Products/AXE002

Is there a reason for me to pay the extra $ for the USB version on ebay? I mean I like the USB part (PICAXE can also be for an extra 8 pounds) and of course the breadboard.

What's your take here?

I'm not familiar with those starter kits. When I started I bought an 08, an 08m and a 18x.
I use a homemade serial cable and it works great Very Happy
