"Here's the board you're communicating with. The cycle counter counts once for each connection and disconnection from 120v AC ($8 on Ebay). The relay board switches the AC to the counter and is triggered by a simple 2N3904 transistor and a couple of resistors.

The main board features the Basic Express BX-24 on the right, and my own EE-100 ethernet interface board on the left. You can see the RJ-45 connector on the left side of the EE-100. Source code for the BX-24 can be found here.

So, when you ping salem, you're actually hitting my firewall, which redirects ICMP type 8 (Echo Request) so the board, whose internal address is 192.168.0.2.The BX decodes the ping request and asserts a TTL output high for 50ms. This turns on the transistor, which fires the relay, which cycles the power, which increments the counter. Then, the webcam takes a picture of it every 5 seconds and stores the image in the www directory. Voila!"

I love the idea, I wouldn't use it for page counts but there are other things I would love it for. New emails, new orders etc. It would be great to hear the number ratchet forward for the new event!

Reminds me of this:

That would be super easy to convert, but it would loose its allure in my eyes.

I would just use a PIC chip to drive a LCD display and have.

You could replace the stamp and everything from there with a PIC chip that would be tied into the ethernet interface card, the PIC chip would then drive the LCD directly such as is done in this project:

You would have to convert the value using a calculation or a look-up table
