I want to get a laptop touchpad to work on my desktop via parallel port or ps/2, I want to install it on my old keyboard. I've figured out that
Synaptics makes the majority of laptop touchpads, so I've been searching for drivers for their touchpads and I'm pretty sure I've found the universal driver for most of their touchpads to work on XP. I really don't know where to go from there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Think I should just order it and try to find the pinout on my own?

That device should just be recognized as a standard mouse. I think the interface is the same.
Wait, are you just trying to use a laptop PART, or, you have a touchpad pointer device with a PS2 plug already on it? I ask because they sell them already made. _________________ _ _ . . . . . . _ _ |

Laptop part, I was thinking I could just try to figure the pinout for the ps/2 myself and solder accordingly
Something along the lines of This |

I asked one of the guys here at work, and he said to *try* this:
Flat cable:
1 : +5V
2 : Data
3 : Clock from PC
4 : Right Button
5 : Left Button
6 : Ground
Pin 7 and 8 aren't used.
Heres the pinout for a PS/2:
http://pinouts.ru/Inputs/PS2Mouse_pinout.shtml
1 DATA <-> Key Data
2 n/c - Not connected
3 GND --- Gnd
4 VCC --> Power , +5 VDC
5 CLK --> Clock
6 n/c
Looks like you would run into a little trouble with Pin 1...since the mouse microcontroller on a regular PS/2 mouse sends 3 data packets through pin 1, so you'd have to program a small microcontroller to translate the button clicks, etc along with the movement, or better yet, rip one that is already programmed out of another PS/2 mouse! That might prove to be easier.
Let me know how it works, this is interesing. _________________ _ _ . . . . . . _ _ |
