Hey Guys/Gals, im a first time poster here and just looking for a little advise or maybe some experience knowledge.

Im currently trying to make a sliding door mechanism for my celler entrance which iv just kitted out into a office,

I dont really want the kids getting down there so im looking for a little security and as im a fan of gadget, looking to make it automated.

Im assuming i need a motor to pull/push the door but which type im not sure of, also what wiring plan might i need,

I will appreciate any comments,

Thanks

James

Welcome James,

I am assuming that you don't want to use an off the shelf solution. There are lots of commercial units that do what you want (supermarket and computer room doors come to mind). But for a cool DIY method have a look at a past Hackaday article.

A linear actuator might be what you need then.

Or you could DIY using a 1/2 inch threaded rod and a gear reduced motor. A fixed nut on the door would push and pull the door as the rod is spun by a low RPM motor.
