A running light. How to?

Hi, I'm quite new to electronics.
I've made alot of very simple LED light boards, but nothing complicated.

What I'm trying to make, is a "running light".
An example: A lightbar with 10 LEDs that starts from left, then "runs" to the right, and then back, and so on until you turn it off. To run on 12V.

My question is: can anyone tell me what components I need? and how to link them together?

I think what you are looking for is a 'Light Chaser'

The best way to do would be with a microcontroller but there are many kits that you can adapt to suit your purpose.try www.kitsusa.net

You can use TTL components, but it may rise complicated design.
The best way is learn microcontroller. 8951 or PIC is good for beginning

It is a chasing effect led light. You may need some led controllers plus power supply to drive them. I saw some types without external controllers can do that effect. They are designed on the PCB board through certain IC, but sorry, i can't find the link now. I will post a link when I get it. You may search on google for chasing led light.

You can make it faster by using smaller capacitors.
