|
|
The hackedgadgets site sets my CPU up to 100% on my old computer.
I use FireFox in Ubuntu linux and my PC is 7 years old.
But this problem with HackedGadgets is 10 times worse than with other sites.
Are there more people with this problem?
kind regards,
Pat |

Could this be due to all of the ads on this forum? |

This forum is not a problem, but the main site: www.hackedgadgets.com
There are a lot of scripts (and flash?) on the site.
kind regards,

Hi Pat,
Great to have you as a reader. I have just done some page load tests while watching the CPU usage, while it does increase a bit it wasn't significant. I unfortunately don't have a machine similar you yours over here though... I am curious if your system has the same problem at other sites with similar content such as Make?
http://blog.makezine.com/
Thanks for the heads up, I will look into it a bit more. |

Sorry for the confusion, but I ment that my CPU stays at 100% even after the page is fully loaded.
The site you mentioned is even worse!
Some kind of 'profiler' which displays the cpu usage for every script would be nice, but I don't think that exists.
If I am the only one with this problem, just wait... until I buy a new PC.
kind regards,
Pat. |

I am not sure what would cause your CPU usage to remain at 100%. I am curious to see if anyone else has this issue since this is the first I have heard of it.
Have you scanned for spyware and viruses recently? I have helped out some people who had computers that were virtually useless since they were infected so bad that most of the CPU was being used by malicious programs. Hopefully this is not the issue for you though... |

I think the problem might be flash videos.
You could try using Adblock plus.

My computer is slow, but it has no virusses.
My version of Firefox (3.0.4) has only little optimization.
Using AdBlock Plus, my CPU has now dropped to 60%
When my CPU was at 100% it could not keep up with the scripts. So it was running behind, and that kept it at 100%.
As far as I am concerned, this subject may be closed. The problem is my slow computer... |

I tried the new beta Firefox 3.1b1
My CPU is now at 15% when viewing www.hackedgadgets.com (without AdBlock).
So that is really a big improvement. |

Interesting I wouldn't have thought a version update would have that much of a change! |

Now this is interesting.
The message above bij "huanic" is spam of course.
The text contains only text which is already used in the previous messages.
And the sentences are weird.
So it must be computer generated. |

I didn't even catch that at a glance. Spam systems are getting more and more complex every day. It was so simple to spot spam a year ago, these days not so much... |

i would say this can be caused by scripts, but mainly by video's on the web page, mainly you tube video's can slow a page down at loading and working,
also try adblock-plus for firefox, it will block adverts on the site and could make it run faster
and on my old pc (an 7 year old xp computer, currently a ftp server) it can get to 100% cpu from webpages with a lot of scripts, videos and adverts that clog the cpu power, so youre not alone here, |
