If you want the recording medium to travel 30 ips you will need around 120 rpm giving you only about a 1/2 second sample. Is that a long enough sample?

Before you go too far down this road I would do a quick test to see if the hard disk platter medium will record the fidelity you are looking for. This idea is possible but i am not sure it would a high end solution where track widths etc. would be a concern.

Is the 120 at the perimeter of the platter?

Yeah, 1/2 second would be plenty... For the synth design, all I really need is a repeating sine waveform.. For the delay, a 1/2 second is still very useful for studio work (stereo delay or sweetening vocals/guitars, for instance).... For the tape compression processor, any sample is enough, since its playback then erasure, immediately after recording...

I wrote a letter to JRF Magnetics asking about the head contact issue... Crossing my fingers!

Thanks for the help!

Very Happy

Hi There
I had also the same idea of making a hard disk platter for echoes. Can't we use only one head for lecture as it spins quickly?
I saw a company that makes electrical components in plastic.
Perhaps one could make a platter like that?
What do you think?
The company is called Integral Technologies..
I love the platter with multiple heads..
