Hey everyone! I was looking at Aaron Bowser's CNC machine website, and I tried to find the UN5804B stepper driver on the Allegro Microsystems website, but it appears they no longer offer it. Does anyone have a good line on a replacement?

Not sure where to get it, there may be a new model out. You might want to ask Bowza via email through the site (if he checks his email, and allowed that option when signing up) or add the question to his thread here.

Hi Nginuity,

I just checked the AllegroMicro website and it looks like the replacements are A3967 and A3977. I haven't used either of these chips but it seems like it would be fairly straight forward to use these in place of the 5804.

Thanks Aaron. Do you think it would be advantageous to use the 3977 for the 2.5A current output rating, instead of the 750mA version? That would get rid of the need for HEXFET's wouldnt it?

Hi Nginuity,

Using higher current rating on the 3977 would be advantagous, however the
decision to use the HexFETs (or some other higher current solution) will really be decied by the current ratings on you motors. If the 2.5A is enough for your motors, then the 3977 alone should be fine.
